Showing the sprouting roots as they grow through the screens.
Note that after a watering cycle some of the
moisture
is retained at the screen, and drips down the root shafts. This helps
them
grow by giving them an effectively longer watering cycle, while keeping
the
leaves exposed to the air.
When harvesting the sprouts from the
screens, gently use a fork to lift the sprouts off the screen. This will gently lift the roots through the
screens.
Place the sprouts in a bowl and fill with water. Again,
carefully stir the sprouts to loosten the seed husks, and remove as
before.
Then gently remove the sprouts from the water. There should be some
left-over
seed husks in the bottom of the bowl when you are finished.
Note:
Living sprouts can survive for several days in the refrigerator without
damaging
them. Rinse the sprouts, then place them in a large plastic bag with a
folded
paper towel in the bottom. Before you eat them, rinse them once again.
